The following is an update regarding the operation of Town of Wytheville facilities during the winter storm forecasted for Saturday, January 24, 2026, through Monday, January 26, 2026.
A winter storm is expected to arrive later in the day on Saturday beginning with snow before transitioning to a wintry mix, followed by freezing rain on Sunday. The system is currently forecasted to end around midnight on Sunday.
Adjustments are being made to the hours of operation at the Wytheville Community Center this weekend. It is anticipated that the Community Center will remain open until approximately 5:00 PM on Saturday, allowing youth league basketball games to be played as scheduled. However, the Community Center will be closed on Sunday due to expected weather conditions.
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg advises that up to one-third of an inch of ice is possible on Sunday. The primary concern will be the potential for black ice overnight and on Monday. Power outages are also of concern.
Anticipating hazardous conditions on Monday morning, Town offices will open two hours late on Monday to reduce the risk associated with early-morning travel.
Town administration will continue to monitor the situation and adjust as needed. Visit the Town of Wytheville’s website, https://www.wytheville.org, and the main Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/townofwytheville, for further updates.
