COVID-19
SAFETY
The Town
of Wytheville and the Wytheville Parks and Recreation Department take the
health and safety of our guests and employees very seriously, and we have
implemented measures to help ensure the safe enjoyment of the Wytheville
Recreation Center during the COVID-19 pandemic.
These
measures include increased cleaning and sanitizing protocols, social distancing and the use of face masks by employees and users
of the facility.
Masks are required to enter the facility.
Failure to follow these recommendations puts
everyone at risk. For the community’s safety, it is imperative to take positive
action to enforce these measures.
Those who choose not to wear a mask will not be
admitted and will be asked to leave the facility. Those who refuse will be
escorted from the facility by law enforcement.
Those required to be escorted from the facility
will face immediate suspension from use of the facility in accordance with
disciplinary actions.
Reopening

We are happy to see many of our patrons back in the
facility. Below you
will find the latest information regarding the Wytheville Community Center Covid-19
guidelines.
Thank
you for your patience during this unprecedented time. We are trying our best to
give you the most “normal” experience as possible with us. We have worked hard
to make sure all our equipment is properly spaced, and we are excited to say
that we still have almost 70 pieces of equipment available to participants!
Below you will find the latest information regarding the Wytheville Community
Center reopening.
MASKS ARE REQUIRED when entering the facility and must be
worn in areas where you are not exercising or swimming to include lobby,
hallway, and stair areas.
In order to
slow and stop the spread of the coronavirus, we ask you to follow the 3 C’s.

CONTAIN- Please stay home if you are sick
until you have been fever-free for 72 hours without taking fever reducer
medications.
·
COVER- Should you feel the need to cough
or sneeze, please do so in your elbow or into a tissue that is immediately
thrown away.
·
CLEAN- Frequent hand washing for 20-30
seconds is encouraged.
Accepting Risk of COVID-19:
By entering the public spaces within the Recreation Center, you are voluntarily assuming risk of exposure or infection. Although the Recreation staff is practicing enhanced cleaning and sanitation procedures, certain risks are inherent in any public space where other users are present. If you are concerned about possible exposure, you are welcome to speak with or call Recreation staff at 276-223-3378.
Upon Arrival
Upon arrival please stop at
the front desk to scan your card, complete the screening process and check
availability as needed.
Required Reservations:
·
Therapy Pool - Open for single use only unless you
are members of the same household. Reservations available in hour increments. Reservations
can be made a week ahead of time and one reservation per day for each
participant. Walk-ins will be accepted if space permits. Call 276-223-3378 for
reservations.
Service Modifications:
The following changes have been made to service areas
throughout the building. The duration of these changes is unknown at this time
and will be guided by health recommendations from the state and Center for
Disease Control.

Fitness Area: The fitness center will re-open with equipment
spaced throughout the facility for proper social distancing. Equipment is
located in the fitness area, multipurpose rooms and other various locations.. We have removed some accessory equipment,
please see the list below. We will be mopping the fitness area at 2pm and may
close areas during those times. |
Youth Teen Center & Climbing Wall: These
areas remain closed at this time. |
Land Aerobic Classes: Aerobic classes will resume with limited
space in each class. You must be registered for the class to participate.
Walk-ins will not be accepted. You may notice adjustments being made to the
class schedule to accommodate our most popular formats and time changes to
allow for extra sanitizing. See

Adult Senior Lounge/ Morning Coffee: This
area will remain closed to participants. |
Water Aerobic Classes: Most water classes will resume with limited
space in each class. You must be registered for the class to participate.
Walk-ins will not be accepted. The Ai Chi class will not be available at this
time. See schedule here. |
Locker Rooms/ Showers: Locker Rooms are open
however Showers remain closed. |
Gymnasium: The gymnasium is open for individual shooting only. One
person per goal. You may play with members of your household only (up to 6
people). Basketballs can be checked out & must be returned at the front
desk. At this time there will be no pickup games. |
Storage Cubbies: Closed. Participants are encouraged to bring
only their essential items inside. |
Racquetball: Single play or play with individuals of the
same household will be permitted at this time. |
Water Park/ Hot Tub: The hot tub and water park areas will remain
closed at this time. |
Pool: The pool will be open for lap swimming only and will be one
participant per lane. Limited or no lanes available during water aerobics. The
therapy pool will be open for single use only unless you are members
of the same household. You must reserve the therapy pool at your desired
time. |
Multipurpose Rooms: The multipurpose rooms will be closed for
rentals. We will be utilizing this space for most of our cardio equipment. |
Walking Track: Only single file walking is permitted on the
innermost part of the walking lane unless walking with member of your
household and max is 2 participants wide. Single file running is permitted on
the outermost part of the running lane. Please utilize the running lane for
passing. Runners and walkers must
always adhere to proper social distancing while walking. |

Disinfecting & Sanitizing:
·
Restrooms will be cleaned every two hours.
·
All touch surfaces will be cleaned every
two hours.
·
The recreation staff will be consistently
cleaning equipment and participants are required to clean equipment after each
use.
·
More sanitizing stations have been made
available to participants to ensure proper cleaning of all equipment in all
areas.
o
Sanitizing spray bottles and towels are
located at the front desk. Upon arrival please see the
front desk staff to receive your bottle and please return it to the assigned
return table as you exit facility so staff can see that it is properly
sanitized.
Other Preventative Measures:
We have put into place the following changes to
encourage social distancing and to protect our guest and staff.

Masking:
Virginia guidelines require appropriate facial covering while in the facility
unless you are exercising or swimming.
·
Removed Furniture: We’ve
removed high contact furniture such as tables, lobby chairs, hallway benches
and senior lounge chairs to encourage social distancing.
·
Floor Markers: Floor
markers have been put into place in the aerobic studio, fitness hallway and
gymnasium for exercises not requiring equipment.
Fitness Area Changes:
All equipment has been relocated throughout the
facility to ensure proper spacing per Virginia Health Department guidelines.
Equipment is in the fitness area, gymnasium and
multipurpose rooms.

Spotting is not permitted during this
time.
·
Workout partners are not permitted
during this time.

Fitness Equipment That Must Be Checked
Out:

help keep our participants safe, the following equipment must be checked out
from the fitness desk and returned after use for disinfecting.

Aquatic Changes:
·
The pool will be open for lap swimming only and will be one
participant per lane. Limited or no
lanes available during water aerobics. See online Water Aerobic Schedule.

therapy pool will be open for single use only unless you are members of the
same household.

You must reserve the therapy pool at your desired time.
·
Locker Rooms/ Showers: Locker
Rooms are open however showers remain closed. We recommend that you come
dressed in swim attire to use the pool.
Pass Plan Fees:
·
Continual pass plans – We suspended
billing as of April 1 and during the time we were closed. Even though we opened
July 6, there was no charge for the month of July. As we move into August, we
will resume billing for continual plans. Due to having a deduction in March and
then the closure of our facility beginning March 16, we have adjusted the
August deduction for your continual pass plan to half of your regular rate.
Beginning with September, billing will return to your normal rate of deduction.

Updates:
Parks
and Shelters
Crystal
Springs Recreation Area, Elizabeth Brown Memorial Park and Withers Park are
open for public use; however, you must practice social distancing and limit any
gatherings to less than 250 people. Camping at Crystal Springs has been
suspended. Please Note: All restrooms at Crystal Springs, Withers Park and
Elizabeth Brown Memorial Park are closed.
