Three Members of Public Safety

                                      Department Retire in Fall 2017




                         “We want to take this opportunity to thank these dedicated members of the Wytheville Department of
                         Public Safety for their many years of service, not only with the department, but the community. They will
                         be greatly missed. The Department wishes them well in their retirement.” ~ Chief Ricky Arnold

                                  Steve Bralley began working at the Wytheville Police Department as a patrolman June 1, 1993.
                                  He was promoted to Investigator in 2002. During this time, Steve’s duties were split between
                                  investigating  cases,  assisting  with  managing  the  Fire  Department’s  fleet  of  fire  trucks,  and
                                  managing the Police Department’s growing fleet of patrol and specialty vehicles. In 2010, Steve
                                  was  promoted  to  the  rank  of  Staff  Lieutenant  where  he  managed  the  daily  activities  of  the
                                  Town’s paid fire engineers, oversaw the maintenance of the Public Safety building and grounds,
                                  and continued to manage all the police and fire fleet vehicles. In 2013, Steve became Lieutenant
                                  over  the  patrol  division  of  the  Police  Department.    In  this  capacity,  he  oversaw  four  patrol
        Staff Lieutenant          sergeants,  four  patrol  corporals,  and  twelve  patrol  officers,  managed  police  and  fire  fleet

          Steve Bralley           vehicles, and oversaw maintenance of the Public Safety building and grounds.  In 2016, Steve
                                  once again became Staff Lieutenant where he assumed his prior duties and responsibilities until
                                  his retirement in October 31, 2017.




                                  Wade Whisman began his law enforcement career in 1982 as a military police officer in the
                                  United States Marine Corps. Wade began working at the Wytheville Police Department July 18,
                                  1986, as a patrol officer where he excelled. In 1993, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant
                                  over “A” Shift. Wade supervised a patrol team of officers patrolling the Town of Wytheville
                                  until his promotion to the rank of Investigator in 1994. Wade continued as an investigator, and
                                  later as lead  investigator, where  he led the  detective  division in  solved  cases  for  almost  two
                                  decades. In 2013, Wade was promoted to the rank of Staff Lieutenant and oversaw the day-to-
                                  day activities of the fire engineers, the four detectives in the Detective Division, and acted as
      Patrol Lieutenant           liaison between the fire engineers, the volunteer fire fighters, and the Town.  In this position,
                                  Wade  also  oversaw  maintenance  of  fire  apparatus  and  trucks.    During  his  tenure,  the  Fire
       Wade Whisman               Department  achieved their  highest  scores to  date  on  inspections  by  outside entities.  In  2016,
                                  Wade became Lieutenant over the Patrol Division of the Police Department.  In this position, he
                                  supervised  four  patrol  sergeants,  four  patrol  corporals,  and  twelve  patrol  officers.  Wade
                                  maintained this position as Patrol Lieutenant until his retirement November 30, 2017.




                                  John Eastwood began his career with the Town of Wytheville on March 6, 1985 in the Public
                                  Works  Department.  On  December  1,  1995,  John  became  a  firefighter  and  transferred  to  the
                                  Wytheville Fire Department as a Fire Engineer. In 1995, John also became a certified dispatcher
                                  at the New River Criminal Justice Training Academy. During his career as a Fire Engineer, John
                                  had a variety of responsibilities as a fire inspector going to area businesses to perform safety
                                  inspections. John continued his responsibilities daily acting as a great liaison with the public,
                                  especially with the many children who stopped by the firehouse on a regular basis to tour the
                                  building or see the fire trucks. John was promoted to the rank of Engineer Sergeant in June of
     Engineer Sergeant            2015 and began these duties of supervising two additional fire engineers, overseeing equipment
                                  and facility inspections, assigning tasks and duties, and scheduling shifts for engineers.  Upon
        John Eastwood             his retirement in October 2017, John exhibited his dedication to the Wytheville community by
                                  joining  the  Wytheville  Fire  Department  as  a  volunteer  fire  fighter,  continuing  to  serve  the
                                  citizens of the Town and surrounding fire district.
